| Speed limits To Be Cut |
21 Apr |
The Department Of Transport expects to reduce deaths on the roads by a third which works out to be around 3000 lives a year, by cutting speed limits.
The usual 20MPH will be extended these limits are most often seen outside schools and in and around town and city centres. Rural roads will also see a speed cut to 50MPH from the 60MPH that where all familiar with. We could even see average speed cameras been introduced in areas to monitor the situation.
The Police will also be given increased powers. Careless driving could see fixed penalty’s handed out, Driving without wearing your seatbelt currently carries a £60 fine reduced to £30 if paid within 30 days, this could be raised to £60 fine as standard.
We can fully understand that 20MPH zones around schools and in town and city centres. As you can get children and elderly stepping out into the road without looking, but we don’t fully understand rural 60 limits been cut to 50.

| Fuel Prices On The Up |
20 Apr |
Petrol is back on the rise rather sharply ever since the fuel duty increase that was applied on the 1st of April.
Prices have risen by 4.5p. Unleaded was at the price of around 88.5p before the price rise and the lowest that we have found around our area is 92.9p, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it at 93p by the end of the week.
Diesel hasn’t risen quite as sharply as unleaded, but it has still risen by 2.9p on average which makes it use over £1 per litre. In some areas its costing £1.02p per litre.
AA president Mr E King said: ‘It’s not clear whether it is the stock markets or the oil industry trying to pump up the value of oil. However, with laden tankers moored off-shore indicating major stock surpluses, there is growing concern that the fundamentals of supply and demand are not being reflected in prices.
‘Increases in fuel duty by the Government are also contributing.’

This is a post that we wouldn’t normally cover here at carsonconcract.co.uk, but we feel that Formula 1 technologies like the new KERs system are slowly been introduced to road going cars where kinetic energy from braking is used to top up the battery charge.
| Saab For Sale |
7 Apr |
Saab are expecting to have new owners buy june 2009 and they expect to return to profit by 2011. According to reports there are up to 20 potential buys looking at Saab, no potential buyers have been identified but it is believed that Dongfeng Motor Corporation from China are one of the interested parties.
This news has come 6 weeks after Saab sought bankruptcy protection from creditors after General Motors said that it would cut all links with unprofitable Saab within the year.
Saab has applied for around £700 million worth of support from the EU and General Motors to aid there bid to become profitable.
In the next 18 months Saab has planned to release 3 new models in the next year and half. If these 3 new models don’t make a big impact on the market then Saab could be in very deep water with no way of floating. This is a big gamble for Saab and hopefully it will pay off.

| Car Sales Down By 30.5% |
6 Apr |
Car Sales are down by 30.5% in March compared with March last year.
Only 313,912 cars where registered last month, guessing that most of them will still be on forecourts. The car sales are down 29.7% for the first few months of this year, and its noticeable on the roads as well as you don’t see many 09 plated cars compared to how quickly 08 plate’s appeared on the road.
SMMT chief executive MR P Everitt stated: “March new-car registrations are a barometer of confidence in the economy, from businesses and consumers alike. The evidence is clear that schemes already implemented across Europe do work to increase demand. The UK is the only major European market not to implement a scheme.”
The UK’s motor industry has been screaming at the UK Government to deploy a scrappage scheme where consumers would get cash incentive to trade their car in for a new model that is greener and have lower emissions.
The new Ford Fiesta was the best selling car for March 09 which is its fifth month of been top of the sales. Sales of Diesels are also up 3% over this time last year.
