I’m not saying people shouldn’t drive carefully, but whatever you do there’s always going to be consequences; I’d rather crash on a country road and go into a field at 60 or 70 and more than likely live given I hit nothing. Than lose a car at 80/90 on a motor way as you’re confined to your side of the road and will more than likely cause more of an issue.

And which one do you do most Lewis I’d say your going to speed more on the motor way as it’s a straight road.
Horses on the road are just a pain; they are unpredictable and easily startled.

Well said jim,

The motorway speed limit has never been increased since it was introduced way back in the 60's or 70's. 57% of Germanys Autobahn is unrestricted and the Isle of Man doesn’t have a speed limit at all. I know these are different situations but still proves how our limits are still low.

....that is until you swerve a wide load tractor and hit a tree and die, or come round a corner and can't slow down quickly enough and end up killing a horse and its rider.

There are lots of reasons why people should drive more carefully on country roads. Some are very narrow and windy and deserve a lot more caution from drivers especially ones that share your views on the speed limit.

Utter bo**ocks.

I fully agree around towns and school but out in the country side there is no need for the 50 limit. I’d hate to think that they'd lower the 70 limit or make bypass's a 50. Cars are a lot safer now and the speed we are allowed to travel at should be altered accordingly
